/ Published July 11, 2025The Whiting School of Engineering hosted its annual Staff Awards at noon on July 9 in Homewood's Glass Pavilion. This year's theme was Survivor, after the hit TV show.
After playing a video showing mock immunity challenges across campus and from a stage decorated to resemble a tribal council, Dean Ed Schlesinger thanked staff members for surviving—and, in fact, thriving through—another academic year, one that saw some challenges.
The event recognizes the contributions of staff members who have invested their talents, energy, and creativity to support the school's mission to help everyone live longer and healthier lives and empower communities and society to thrive—even in extreme environments.
The winners of the awards in three categories were:
- Rookie of the Year: Briaune Brown, program manager, CAIMEE
- Leadership: Bahar Zarrabi, senior administrative manager, ChemBE
- Excellence: Franklin Branch, faculty recruitment logistics director, Faculty Affairs
- Excellence: Kim Franklin, academic program manager, CS
- Excellence: Danielle McKenna, senior communications specialist, CaSE
- Excellence: Aubrey Poysa, director of faculty governance, Faculty Affairs
